The Fun Art of Making Candles

How easy is it? Not really complicated but you have to follow the safety rules first. In fact, this is the first guide for beginners to make simple candles. But even that requires adult supervision if children are involved.

Firstly, you need to keep supplies handy for safety; such as Banking Soda, pair of panhandles, fire extinguisher, and pot lids. Next, for the general supplies to get started, you will need: Double container, Metal spoon, Hammer, Pencil, Screw Driver, Tape Measure, Mold Sealer, Metal Pouring Pot, Shears, Ready Wick, Measuring Spoon, Kitchen Scale, Wax, Tongs, Waxed paper, Candle Coloring Chip.

At first you need to try the basic plummeting method. A tapering candle is made by dipping the wick carefully using something like a pencil wrapped midpoint of the wick. As each side is dipped in the vat of wax, a layer of wax coats the wick. The thickness of the candle depends on how many times it is dipped into the vat of wax.

Secondly, you have to use a wax paper to cover your workspace. One important thing is that you should not allow wax to drop on heat producing elements, which generate heat because of wax being highly flammable. Always keep in mind that you never pour the wax down drain. It will harden when cool and will create a serious block.

And thirdly, you have to melt the wax in your double boilers to 160 degrees. Place coloring chip in melted wax and mix until completely dissolved. You need to follow the following steps:

1. Pour the wax into the dipping vat – a large metal chocolate bean container will do.

2. Just cut wick to length of candle X 2. That means make 2 candles – one candle on each side. And also keep extra 2 inches overall.

3. Using a pencil hold the wick in center and dip in vat up to 1 inch below the pencil. You have to wait for 1 minute and then lift the wick from vat. At this stage, always keep in mind that you don’t touch the ends of wick.

4. Make sure the candle solidifies, and then continue the dipping process until preferred width is achieved. You have to use the scissors to clip the bottom, so that you have a flat surface.

5. If you want a glossy finish, increase the heat up to 180 degree. After that, hang the candles and allow drying harden and set.
