Scented Soy Candle Tips

Scented candles are everywhere. What’s not to love about these sweet-smelling and colorful candles that can do wonders in relaxing and soothing your mind and body? Whether you bought it, made it or received it from a friend, it’s easy to fall in love with the hobby of lighting up richly scented candles and immersing in their calming fragrance.

But do you know that there are things that you can do to get the most out of your scented candles? Here are some candle burning tips to make lighting up your highly scented candles safe and enjoyable:

· Trim the wick about ¼ inch before lighting. We hear this tip all the time but not all people are obedient enough to follow it. This is done to cut down the smoke. Even with soy candles which hardly emit any smoke, if you don’t cut the wick and it gets too long, the wick itself will smoke.

· Burn candles away from drafts. Drafts coming from the air condition, open windows or heat vents cause the candle to burn excessively fast, posing as a fire hazard. If you see the flame flickering, move your candle to a different location.

· When it’s the first time you burn a soy candle, it’s important to burn it for exactly 1 hour per inch of its diameter (a candle with 3” diameter should burn for 3 hours). This is to establish a “memory burn” which prevents the candle from burning down the center.

· If a candle happens to spill on your clothing or on the carpet, what you can do is to let it completely harden before removing the chunk of wax. After that, place a paper towel on top the wax and iron it on low setting. The wax will melt and stick to the paper. Soy candles are easier to clean. You can remove a soy wax spill with hot soapy water.

· If you’re a little short on the budget, you can try making your own scented candles or buy wholesale scented candles which cost less than if you buy them in retail.

· To extinguish the flame of your candle, snuff it by dipping the wick into liquid wax using a non-flammable tool such as a wick dipper. By doing this, the wick will be kept at the center.

· Keep your scented candles out of the sun. Constant direct exposure to sunlight will cause for the candle’s color to fade.
· Never touch a burning candle.
· After extinguishing the flame, allow the candle to cool down and harden before you light it up again.
· Do not place your scented candles inside the refrigerator.

· Discontinue burning scented jar candles when there is only ¼ inch of wax left at the bottom of the container. Use one large candle or several small candles to fill a large room with fragrant smell. No matter how richly scented a candle is, its size is still a major factor in filling up a room with scent.

There’s nothing like lighting up a scented candle to take your mind off the daily stresses of your life. With these simple candle tips, you will have the best time with your scented candles.
